为培养学生创新能力、思辨能力，增强学生的心理素质及应变能力，我校于中秋节来临之际举了第一届英语节。此次英语节共包含两部分：英语演讲比赛决赛和Spelling Bee单词拼写大赛。
Speech Contest
演讲比赛由主题演讲、即兴问答、才艺展示三个环节组成，分别以不同比重计入最终成绩。
经过一个暑期的准备、录制上传视频及综合评定初选出的29位选手在比赛中依次亮相。优秀的表现没有统一的标准，它可以是慷慨激昂，可以是诙谐幽默，可以是镇定自若，可以是娓娓道来。甚至可以是虽然带着一丝紧张，但依然握一握拳给自己鼓劲。
台上的风格各异，台下却兴奋始终如一，中外教组成的高标准高规格裁判席不时爆发出掌声和欢呼。所有人都不只关注谁的语言水平更高，更多关注的是通过使用英语这个工具展现出来的独特观点和个性，这也是一场英语演讲带给同学们的裨益。
2分钟的现场问答环节，非常考验参赛选手的应变能力，选手们都能随机应变，灵活应对。为了增强互动，问答环节的问题都是赛前在观众席中收集。观众们的思路也是天马行空，对我们的演讲者们也是不小的挑战。这些问题中既有诸如“如果明天太阳消失，你要做些什么？”的奇思妙想，也有“生命的意义是什么？”这样的充满哲学意味的问询。此次比赛，还有五名同学入选“最具创造力问题”奖。
才艺展示环节，更是精彩纷呈，演讲者们邀请未参加比赛的同伴一起助演，有英文歌曲演唱，有古筝配乐英文诗朗诵，有钢琴四手连弹，更有师生联手的吉他伴奏英文诗朗诵。选手们的精彩展示自信又极具感染力的演讲获得了评委和现场观众的高度认可，和同伴的默契配合更增进了同学间的凝聚力。
Spelling Bee
Spelling Bee 环节又从下午的困倦中唤醒了学生们的热情。拼写大赛由英语组的陈星子老师主持，学生们现场抽签分成四组。随着单词的由易到难，学生们的斗志也慢慢被点燃，场下的观众也按奈不住想要加入到比赛中来。以致比赛接近尾声，同学们还意犹未尽，更有很多同学表示：要背上一个学期单词再来参战。
为时一天的英语节活动在同学们的欢笑声中落下帷幕。外方校长Mr. Derflinger对整场大赛进行了点评，他首先对各参赛选手的优秀表现给予了充分肯定。之后，对英语组的老师们表示了感谢，感谢她们细心准备，为同学们提供了良好的展示平台。学校的每一次大型活动都是学校各部门老师和同学们共同付出的结果，学生们收获了成长，老师们则收获了亲眼见证孩子们每个时期取得进步的欣慰。
语言，是我们认识世界了解世界的工具，通过此次英语节，Veritas英语组代表学校也提出了对全体同学的希冀：善用工具，开拓世界，完善自己。

In order to cultivate students' creativity, thinking ability, and enhance students' psychological quality and adaptability, our school held the first English Festival on the approach of Mid-Autumn Festival. The English Festival consists of two parts: the final of the English Speech Contest and the Spelling Bee Word Spelling Contest.
The speech contest is composed of three parts:speech, impromptu question and answer, and talent show, which will be counted into the final result in different proportions.
After a whole summer’s preparation, recording and uploading videos, and preliminarily selected by comprehensive evaluation, 29 contestants appeared one after another in the competition. There is no uniform standard for excellent performance. It can be impassioned, humorous, calm and composed, or talkative. It can even be that although there is a hint of tension, he still clenches a fist to cheer himself up.
The styles of the stage are different, but the excitement of the audience is always the same. The high-standard and high-profile referee bench composed of Chinese and foreign teachers burst into applause and cheers from time to time. Everyone not only pays attention to who has a higher language level, but also pays more attention to the unique perspectives and personality displayed through the use of English as a tool. This is also the benefit of an English speech brought to the students.
The 2-minute on-site question and answer session is a great test of the contestants' adaptability, and they can respond flexibly. In order to enhance interaction, questions in the Q&A session are collected in the audience before the game. The audience's thinking is also wild and unconstrained, and it is also a big challenge for our speakers. These questions include both whimsical ideas such as "If the sun disappears tomorrow, what will you do?", as well as philosophical questions such as "What is the meaning of life?" In this competition, five more students were selected for the "Most Creative Question" award.
The talent show session was even more exciting. The speakers invited non-participating companions to assist in the performance. There were English songs sung, English poem recitations with guzheng music, four-handed piano playing, and guitar accompaniment English poems by teachers and students. The wonderful presentations of the contestants' confident and contagious speeches were highly recognized by the judges and the audience, and the tacit cooperation with their peers enhanced the cohesion among the students.
The Spelling Bee session awakened the enthusiasm of the students from the sleepiness in the afternoon. The spelling contest was hosted by Ms.Xinzic Chen from the English Department. The students were divided into four groups by drawing lots on the spot. As the vocabulary went from easy to difficult, the students' fighting spirit was slowly ignited, and the audience off the court couldn't help but want to join the game. As the competition came to a close, the students still expressed their enthusiasm, and many students said that they would have to have a better preparation before next battle.
The one-day English Festival ended with the laughter of the students. The foreign principal, Mr. Derflinger, commented on the entire competition. He first fully affirmed the outstanding performance of the contestants. After that, I thanked the teachers in the English group for their careful preparation and provided a good platform for students to display. Every large-scale event in the school is the result of the joint efforts of teachers and students from all departments of the school. The students have gained growth, and the teachers have gained the gratification of witnessing the progress of the children in each period.
Language is a tool for us to understand the world. Through this English Festival, the Veritas English Department represents the school's hope for all students: make good use of tools, open up the world, and improve themselves.
